Sardinia in the Roman World until Constantine
By: Attilio Mastino
The work aims to renew the interpretation of the history of Sardinia, which is no longer to be understood as an isolated hinterland, but as one of the provinces that was most well-inserted in the Roman ecumene. The volume collects and summarises the wealth of research and scientific endeavour carried out in recent decades, the result of projects of ever greater international scope and increasingly technologically advanced research methodologies. The work explores the boundary between change and continuity following Robert Rowland’s model, which was later substantially revised by Peter van Dommelen, who highlighted the persistence of Punic elements in some aspects of Republican Sardinia, despite the push towards “Romanisation”.
